This has always been a hard issue to define with any legal and fair approach.
Let me explain. If you are 18 and attracted to your 17 year old friend, "legally" you are a MAP (Ephebophilia). And if you look at the definition of MAP they've really stretched it so as to justify it somehow ethically and legally but let's keep it basic - a legal adult attracted to a legal minor. I think, flat out, a MAP should be someone 21+ attracted to someone 17 and under. And legally, if you are 18+ attracted to someone under 14 it's a crime period. If you are 18-20 they are 14-16 it's a serious mental/social issue that needs addressed and possible crime. It's circumstances sometimes. I mean 16 is the legal age of consent. I can't destroy someone's life at 18 because they had sex with a 16 year old. What if they met as a couple 14/16, waited to have sex til the one was 16. So now it's a crime because one is "legally" an adult? "Coming out as a MAP" should be treated as coming out with a mental disorder, and baring any illegal activity, they should be helped. Remember anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, PTSD from childbirth, were all things that would get you sent to an asylum 75 years ago too. Being a MAP (under my definition) wouldn't be "being normal". You shouldn't be thrown in jail for admitting it but you shouldn't be praised either. It should be handled quietly between you, your family and mental health professionals (pre-Trudeau ones).
