Response on Facebook to this inaccurate article written in Chicago Tribune: https://www.chicagotribune.com/midwest/ct-lake-huron-nuclear-waste-20191208-7swbertipjf53dn7f6kn653t7i-story.html
This article is not accurate.
Let me say before I begin that I do not support the nuclear waste dump facility being built here, but on that, inaccuracies in an article rooting for my side do not help.
First, "South Bruce" and "Huron-Kinloss" are two different areas. If it is "South Bruce" it's farther away from that the originally proposed site at the nuclear plant west of Tiverton, Ontario (where the second-largest nuclear facility in the World sits now) https://www.nwmo.ca/~/media/Site/Files/PDFs/2019/05/02/13/24/The-Land-Access-Process-Mapping-Areas-of-Interest.ashx?la=en
Second, it's hardly a race at this point, the two (actually 3) communities have been the "proposed" sites for over a year now, both are under review. I guess if you want to make a sort of twisted fun game out of it you can call it a race.
Third, "a long process" doesn't remain. In fact, it's in the final stages now. Granted the final stages will still take several years but where was the Chicago Tribune when this was first announced over 5 years ago?
And while I appreciate their efforts "spent fuel rods" are considered "high-level nuclear waste" and this storage facility proposed will only store "low and intermediate nuclear waste".
What they fail to realize that "nuclear waste" is being transported each and every day from the four nuclear plants in Ontario. The bad thing about this proposal is the increase in local UNITED STATES generated nuclear waste which could now be delivered to Canada to be stored in the proposed site (if it's here in SW Ontario).
Let's try to keep our eye on the Facts.

This website section uses a lot of satire and sarcasm to get points across. if you don't like it why are you reading this website at all?
