I do not find Randonautica to be as interesting as some people make it out to be, but since it has made some updates, I thought I would give it a try again. Unlike the last time I waited until I was over an hour away from the large nuclear exclusion zone near my house to generate points. I tried Randonautica earlier in the summer and the first two points that were generated were far back in fields owned by the nuclear plant, complete with large signs warning 'No Trespassing. Armed Guards Patrolling Area' so obviously I was not about to attempt entering them.
I chose Anomaly and thought about finding “money” whether it was a coin or even a house would have counted, though for the house there would be no way to confirm it.
I got the point, within five kilometers, and drove down a couple gravel dirt roads to reach it. I found myself next to a small, wooded area with a field visible behind it. The nearest I could tell the point was on top of a hill in the field. It would have been easy to get to it but I am not about to trespass for a phone APP. I drove a short ways down the road, up the hill, and passed two trucks parked on the sidelines. One was on a weird angle next to the access to the field the point was generated in. I did not see any people, nor did I stick around.
The second attempt, I believe I went for Attractor, as Anomaly and Void did not generate any points. In the interest of science, however, I cannot say for certain that Attractor was the final option that generated a point. I cannot remember.
It generated a point about five kilometers away, I do not remember specifically where. I think it was another field, but I never made it to it. I was asking for something “unique” and “special”, money would have been nice, but I wanted something different this time.
I drove on mostly gravel dirt roads the whole time with only brief jaunts down paved roads.
As I headed to the second point I thought “wouldn’t it be cool if it was another pioneer cemetery I haven’t seen”. Well, whether it was the power of attraction or being in early settler country, I turned down a road only to discover a small pioneer cemetery. It was about one kilometer from the point generated but I decided to abandon my quest and stop at the cemetery instead.
It was a small graveyard of maybe two dozen graves on a former church property. The stones were dated between the 1850s to 1950s. I took lots of photos and a few will be included with this story, the rest will be on my Flickr account.
So, the third try, I went for something “unique and never seen before” again but this time I kept my focus on it. I ended up with a point off the road in a small field. I could see it from the road so I did not bother to walk over. I did see a nearby farm with a uniquely designed old building, but it was away from the road on the opposite side from the point.
Overall, I concluded my quest by deleting the APP as it seemed to be the most productive outcome of this venture.
